It's been AGES since i've grabbed a brush and some paint and done something other than digital illustration (mostly because I suck at traditional art) but lately I've had this little itch to do something that didn't involve the computer... so these are the first painterly studies i've done in like... what, two years?

I now have in my hands a copy of the Apag-Unicef book "60 Unite for Children"
And I can tell you, It's top notch quality all over. Design, presentation, and content-wise it's a must have... And I still think I may have been invited because of a typo or a mistake, I am so lucky to have been invited it hurts.

I was lucky to have gone to school with this guy, and his character design is utterly amazing and a japanese/vinyl/retro/designy/geek's wet dream. Along with Kone (Cesar Evangelista, who is another one of the gods in my illustration pantheon)and other mexican designers, he is co-founder of ...

...LEDY-LEDY, the first (correct me if I'm wrong) completely Hecho-In-Mexico Vinyl Figurine Brand... Stay on top of these guys, they are sure to be the next big thing... Or at least I think so... :)

Me fui nueces (ok, eso esta muy pocho - enloquecí, pues ) y me compre un montón de sketchbooks y marcadores... Es que ya, la verdad tenia mucho tiempo sin tener cuadernos decentes ni plumones/plumas que no fueran comprados en Waldo's/Solo-un-Precio/Tienda-de-1-dolar-pues... Estoy contento con mi compra, unos los dejaré en la casa, y otros los cargaré para todas partes.

I was 16-17... A good friend convinced me that I could do something with the doodles I was doing in my school notebooks, and he told me "If I took care of everything, and all you had to do was draw and make it look the best you can, would you do it?" I said yeah, I thought he was crazy...
But no, we did it. 4 Issues of an Independent comics magazine in Ensenada, Baja California, through 1998-1999. It was a little thing, but to me it was a big deal. I realized that other people liked what I did and that I could maybe, just maybe, do it for a living. :)

French philosopher Jean Baudrillard dies age 77

PARIS (AFP) - French sociologist and philosopher Jean Baudrillard, one of Europe's leading postmodernist thinkers and a fierce critic of consumer culture, died Tuesday in Paris at the age of 77.

He was a prolific writer and renowned photographer who first attracted worldwide attention in 1991 with the deliberately provocative claim that the Gulf War "did not take place".

Baudrillard argued that neither side could claim victory by the end of the war and that the conflict had changed nothing on the ground in Iraq.

Just over a decade on, in an essay entitled "The Spirit of Terrorism: Requiem for the Twin Towers", he courted fresh controversy by describing the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States as an expression of "triumphant globalisation battling against itself".

Born in Rheims on July 29, 1929, into a peasant family, he studied German at the Sorbonne, later working as a teacher and translator of Bertolt Brecht before his interests turned to sociology.

Baudrillard taught sociology throughout the 1960s and went on to develop a stinging -- some say nihilistic -- critique of modern society.

He was the author of more than 50 works including: "The Mirror of Production" (1973), "Simulacra and Simulation" (1981), "America" (1986), and "The Spirit of Terrorism: And Requiem for the Twin Towers" (2002).
